JACQUEMART ANDRE MUSEUM - Paris

Jacquemart Andre Museum

This is one of the finest museum of its type in Paris, the treasure trove of a couple devoted to XVIIIth-century French paintings and furnishings, XVIIth-century Dutch and Flemish paintings, and Italian Renaissance works. Edouard André made a fortune in banking and industry in the XIXth century, spent most of his life as an army officer stationed abroad; he eventually returned to marry a well-known portraitist of government figures and the aristocracy, Nélie Jacquemart, and they went on to compile a collection of rare decorative art and paintings in this 1850s town house.
The collection contains sevreral Rembrandts and, best of all, XVth and XVIth Italian genius in the works of Bonicelli, Donatello, Mantegna and Uccello, Flemish work by Memling, Van Dyck, Dutch paintings by Hals, Rembrandt and Ruisdael, and French paintings by Lancret, Chardin, Boucher, Fragonard and David. On the stairway is Tiepolo's fresco of the Reception of Henn III in Venice depicting a stupendous party.

An audioguide, available in six languages, is freely provided for each visitor.
