Archaeologists in Angkor
Images from the French School of Asian Studies

Angkor site is one of the largest preindustrial city of Asia overgrown by the jungle since its neglect in the 16th century. This exhibition about the centenary action of the French School of Asian Studies (EFEO) in Angkor will take place at the Cernuschi Museum.
Visitors will discover the different outstanding periods of the Angkor site, through 108 pictures (1860-1960) of the temples taken before their cleaning, while they were still surrounded by huge trees, and then during and after their restoration.
The exhibition will also present some documents concerning the French archaeologists’ presence in Angkor as well as two instruments allowing visitors to view stereo slides. A particular pedagogic effort will allow public to become familiar with the Khmer Empire’s history through its main imperial monuments.
