Tim Burton
The exhibition

After the MoMA in New York, la Cinémathèque hosts the Tim Burton's exhibition through an amazing retrospective. Better known as a filmmaker, Tim Burton, who shook up conventions, supplied contemporary mainstream cinema with a welcome breath of fresh air. Less well known is his work as an illustrator and photographer, heir to Edgar Allan Poe, the Surrealists, and constantly reinterpreting popular culture. Drawings, paintings, storyboards, models, costumes, film extracts... Tim Burton's exhibition is a unique opportunity to look through his artistic work. There's behind the scenes footage of all his films, and films in super 8 or 16mm, early works digitised for the occasion. Some extracts from his most famous movies will be showed such as Edward Scissorhands,  Batman, Mars Attacks, Ed Wood or Sleepy Hollow.

Expressionismus & Expressionismi
Berlin-Munich 1905-1920. Blaue Reiter vs Brücke

This exhibition will present, around 170 works, these two different but representative movement of the German Expressionnism. Always interested in dialogue between the arts, the Pinacotheque invites visitors to discover the essential and antagonistic nuances, by confronting the artists and artworks. Brücke is an art group settled in Berlin from 1908. The founders, Kirchner, Nolde and Schmidt-Rottluff emphasized emotional creation, turned to artist’s feelings and perceptions. These artists expressed their instinctive relations to pan-Germanic decadence epoch, to which they became the helpless and sad witnesses. As for Der Blaue Reiter, it was formed of artists and philosophers who developed a theoretical or even spiritual approach of the work of art.
